Purpose

The Accessibility Task Force was created in 2015. Charged with identifying barriers preventing equal access to instructional materials, the task force focused on solutions. The continuing goal for Walters State Community College is ensuring that all members of the college community can fully participate in the total learning environment. Achieving the accessibility goals can best be accomplished with the formation of a standing committee.

The Accessibility Task Force was created in 2015. Charged with identifying barriers preventing equal access to instructional materials, the task force focused on solutions. The continuing goal for Walters State Community College is ensuring that all members of the college community can fully participate in the total learning environment. Achieving the accessibility goals can best be accomplished with the formation of a standing committee.

The Accessibility Committee will (1) promote awareness of accessibility, (2) guide training initiatives within the college addressing the skills, rights, and needs of students and employees, (3) work with faculty and staff transitioning instructional materials and digitally-based electronic media to accessibility standards, (4) evaluate the effectiveness of accessibility initiative, and (5) create and maintain a college-wide Accessibility Plan. The committee relies on the guidance of prevailing governmental regulations concerning persons with disabilities and best practices employed in higher education.

The committee will meet a minimum of once a semester.

1 Representative from the Distance Education Division

1 Representative from Library Services

1 Representative from the Student Services Division
