04:05:00 Student Orientation Program

Revision Responsibility: Vice President for Student Services
Responsible Executive Officer: Vice President for Student Services

Purpose

To provide guidance on the dissemination of relevant information needed for new student success.

Policy

Prior to their enrollment, all first-time freshman who plan to attend Walters State Community College are required to participate in a “New Student Orientation” program (in person or virtually) at any of the campus locations. During these sessions, pertinent information is presented regarding Walters State’s academic programs and the various student services available. “New Student Orientation” also introduces participants to the advising and registration processes. During the orientation, students will communicate with an advisor to develop an educational plan designed to lead to timely graduation as well as to determine the appropriate classes needed for the upcoming semester. Upon completion of the advising process, students are allowed to register through MyWS, Walters State’s web-based registration system.
