Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to summarize the insurance benefits available to eligible employees.


Policy

Faculty and staff participation in the State of Tennessee group insurance plan is optional. Comprehensive medical and hospitalization coverage, term life insurance, and an optional special accident insurance are included in the group plan. The college pays approximately 80 percent of the premium for the employee. New faculty and staff members can participate in the plan effective with the first of the month following the date of employment. Employees who do not elect health coverage when first eligible and later decide to enroll, will be considered a late enrollee. Employees are encouraged to apply for group insurance coverage when first employed rather than risk the possibility of not being able to get coverage as a late enrollee. This requirement also applies to any dependent employees wishing to enroll after the initial enrollment. As late enrollees, employees and dependents must meet one of the special qualifying events. Employees and/or dependents who wish to enroll in group coverage without expriencing a qualifying event, must wait until the annual enrollment period and will incur a monthly late applicant fee in addition to the premium. For a list of these provisions, contact the Human Resources Department. Additional accidental death and dismemberment insurance, long-term disability insurance, dental insurance, optional term life insurance, vision insurance, long term care insurance, hospital indemnity, personal sickness indemnity, critical illness insurance, and cancer insurance plans are available to full-time employees and regular part-time employees who work at least thirty hours per week.
