06:44:00 Certified Administrative Professional Examination

Revision Responsibility: Executive Director of Human Resources
Responsible Executive Officer: Vice President for Business & Finance

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish the process and criteria regarding the Certified Administrative Professional Examination.

Policy

Walters State employees who work in a clerical-secretarial or a clerical management non-exempt position and who pass the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) Examination shall be granted a nine percent (9%) increase in salary upon successful completion of the CAP Examination. This increase in salary is not applicable for recertification for existing employees or for newly hired employees who already possess active or inactive CAP status. Exempt employees are not eligible for the increase. Individuals who previously received the 9% increase for passing the Certified Professional Secretary examination are not eligible for a subsequent 9% increase for passing the Certified Administrative Professional exam.

Clerical employees who do not have the title of secretary, but wish to take the exam, should contact the Office of Human Resources regarding eligibility for the salary increase prior to incurring any costs associated with preparation for the exam. The salary increase shall become effective with the next pay period after the employee’s passing grades on all parts of the examination are certified by the International Association of Administrative Professionals. Employees may contact the Office of Human Resources with questions regarding eligibility for the increase. It is the employee’s responsibility to provide the appropriate verification to the Human Resources Office. The verification consists of a copy of the letter from the IAAP certifying that the exam was passed and a completed employee update/status change form.

The college will not pay the examination fee or recertification fee for the CAP designation. The employee’s department may elect to pay the fees relative to review courses or recertification courses as these courses would be relative and beneficial to the employee’s job functions. Fee payment for such courses will be subject to applicable policies and procedures and availability of funds.

This policy applies to certification earned on or after the effective date of TBR Guideline No. P-115, which is July 1, 1991. 10/95; 08/04, 03/06; 08/13; 05/16
