EMSB 1401 - Emergency Medical Responder

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is a lecture designed to provide the student with the knowledge of an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).  This course includes the following topics: Emergency Medical Responder-National Educational Standards competencies, CPR training and certification, introduction to EMS operations, roles and responsibilities of the EMR, workforce safety, wellness, medical/legal/ethical issues, medical terminology, fundamental anatomy and physiology, life span development, airway management, AED cardiac resuscitation, patient assessment,  communications, documentation, respiratory emergencies, cardiac emergencies, altered mental status, medical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, environmental emergencies, obstetric emergencies, pediatric emergencies, and geriatric emergencies.   Successful completion enables the student to sit for the certification examination given by the Tennessee Health, Emergency Medical Services.  The outcomes presented in EMSB 1401, EMSB 1402, and EMSB 1403 may be taught in a coterminous format or in a two-semester format.  F, S, Su.
