EMTB 1180 - IV Initiation and Maintenance

This course studies fluids and electrolytes in the body with emphasis placed upon the manifestation of fluid and electrolyte imbalances. The effects of dehydration and over-hydration are included. The course also deals with the causes, signs, and symptoms of hypoperfusion, fluid administration through intravenous techniques, and the application of the Pneumatic anti-shock garment (PASG). This course brings currently licensed EMT’s up to standards of the current EMT-IV Therapy license. The course content also covers content in the latest NHTSA EMT curriculum. Successful completion of this course allows the student to sit for the licensure examination given by the Tennessee Department of Health-Division of Emergency Medical Services. (Prerequisites: Students must hold current Tennessee licensure as an EMT to sit for licensure). Other allied health professionals may take the course for credit. F, S, Su
