Computer and Information Science - Information Technology

The Computer and Information Science Technology program emphasizes the development of data processing skills needed by professional analysts and programmers. The training will qualify students to assume positions with business and industry employing computer technology for the resolution of data processing problems. Special emphasis will be placed on programming skills, structured design concepts, data base management concepts, system skills and system design and analysis.

Graduate requirement: minimum 2.0 GPA in CPSC courses. Also offered under this program is a concentration in computer networking.

This program is designed for the student who does not intend to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program.

Degree: Associate of Applied Science

Factors that affect your progression include required Learning Support courses, completion of computer competency and your choices regarding campus location, course delivery method, and the days and times selected to take classes.

1General Education electives in each category must be chosen from approved courses listed in the General Education Program .

2Students should consult a faculty advisor to determine appropriate class selections from the following computer science elective courses: CISP 1230/1231, CPSC 2770/2771, INTC 1050/1051, INTC 1070/1071, INTC 1085, INTC 2000/2001 or INTC 2020/2021.

Notes:

• Walters State students are required to meet computer competency during the first 30 hours of coursework. Students must take INFS 1010, BUSN 1360 or AGRM 2630/2631 or successfully complete a Computer Competency Exam. The Computer Competency Exam does not provide course credit. Consult your advisor. • Learning Support courses must be taken every semester until completed.
