Purpose
To define what prior learning credit is accepted at the institution.
Policy
The term “prior learning” refers to a variety of methods of acquiring knowledge comparable to the learning objectives of college courses. Knowledge may be acquired in a classroom or outside the traditional classroom environment. Walters State Community College offers college credit for the following types of prior learning.
- Advanced Placement Examinations
- Certified Administrative Professionals (CAP) Examination
- College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
- Credit by Assessment (Dual Credit)
- Credit by Departmental Assessment
- Credit for Military Experience
- Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSST)
- Public Safety - Fire Protection Training
- Public Safety - Paramedic/Emergency Medical Training
- Nursing Career Mobility
- Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology Diploma Articulation
- American College Testing (ACT)
- SAT Reasoning Test (SAT)
- Excelsior Credit by Exam (Excelsior)
Students requesting credit for prior learning are required to complete the Application for Prior Learning Assessment and follow the procedures outlined on the application in order to obtain credit.
