11:10:00 Community Program Advisory Committee

Revision Responsibility: Executive Council
Responsible Executive Officer: Vice President for Academic Affairs

Purpose

Program committees are established to assure that the goals and objectives of the curricula reflect input from a variety of sources and are consistent with the needs of the area served by Walters State. Members are expected to make recommendations on new programs and/or courses needed; to assist departmental personnel in determining objectives for individual courses; to make recommendations on part-time personnel; to serve as goodwill ambassadors in the community for the individual program and the college; and to perform other functions that are deemed appropriate.

Membership

Appointment to each advisory committee will be by the president upon recommendation of the appropriate dean and the vice president for Academic Affairs. The number of members on each committee will depend on the needs of the individual program and the area to be served but will usually range from a minimum of five to a maximum of fifteen. The chair for each committee may be appointed by the membership or, if preferred, the committee may function without a designated chair. In most cases, the faculty/staff member who is primarily responsible for the program presides over the meetings.

Program advisory committee members are selected on the basis of their technical knowledge and/or skill in a particular area and on their willingness to devote time to the college. Every effort is made to incorporate diversity into the group’s membership. In order to assure a committee with a diversified background, attention will be given to past experiences of individuals under consideration for membership and to the geographical area where they reside.
