CHEM 1110 - General Chemistry I

General Chemistry I is a study of fundamental concepts and properties of selected elements and compounds. Topics covered are: tools of chemistry; atoms, molecules and ions; chemical reactions I: chemical equations and reactions in aqueous solutions; chemical reactions II: mass relationships; the gaseous state; thermochemistry; quantum theory and the electronic structure of atoms; periodic relationships among the elements; chemical bonding I: basic concepts; and chemical bonding II: molecular geometry and molecular orbitals. A letter of “C” or better is required to take Chemistry 1120. Prerequisite(s): Students must have completed or tested above MATH 1030. Pre/Corequisite(s): CHEM 1111. F, S, Su. (T)
