03:25:00 Combination of Classes

Revision Responsibility: Vice President for Academic Affairs
Responsible Executive Officer: Vice President for Academic Affairs

Purpose

Outlines the need for combining courses for enrollment purposes to ensure that students can make satisfactory progress toward completing requirements for their certificate/degree.

Policy

In selected instances, the number of students enrolling in a course may not be sufficient to warrant the offering of that course. Academic deans, in consultation with faculty members who may teach such courses, may combine such courses for enrollment purposes to ensure that students can make satisfactory progress toward completing requirements for their certificate/degree. When courses are combined, the credit hours awarded must be equal in each course and the curriculum must be similar in content to such an extent that the combination would not cause a loss of instructional quality in either course. In cases where independent study courses are combined with regular courses and the curriculum content is not similar, the instructors must ensure the students enrolled in the independent study courses receive the individual attention necessary to maintain the highest standards of instructional quality.
