06:04:03 Measure of Satisfactory Response Indicated by the Student Evaluation Instrument
|
|
Revision Responsibility: |
Vice President for Academic Affairs |
Responsible Executive Officer: |
Vice President for Academic Affairs |
Purpose
To establish standards relative to the measurement of satisfactory response indicated by the student evaluation instrument.
Policy
I. Standards
- Student evaluations are conducted in all classes that a faculty member teaches during an academic year. A weighted semester average (since the last evaluation) of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale indicates satisfactory teaching performance on the student evaluation instrument.
- If a faculty member’s weighted semester average falls below 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, the score will be considered in conjunction with the percentage of overall student satisfaction as indicated by the student evaluation, where “Agree” and “Strongly Agree” indicate satisfaction and where “Disagree” and “Strongly Disagree” indicate dissatisfaction. If the faculty member has a score of less than 3.0, but the percentage of overall student satisfaction is at or above 85%, then the teaching performance of that faculty member (insofar as it is reflected by student evaluations) may be considered acceptable.
- If a faculty member’s weighted semester average falls below 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and the percentage of overall student satisfaction is below 85% for two consecutive semesters, then the dean/designee and faculty member develop a one-year plan of improvement as is articulated in 06:04:02 Evaluation Process for Academic Affairs.
