Purpose (Mission)
The mission of the P-16 Council is consistent with the statewide guidelines for TN P-16 initiatives. The Mid-East TN Regional P-16 Council will collaborate with the ten-county area to link regional youth in Pre K-16 to education, career preparation, workforce and economic development promoting an educated citizenry and healthy economy.
History
Tennessee Community Colleges were asked to coordinate and develop regional councils for their service areas to help implement the state’s education improvement initiatives. Walters State Community College developed the Mid-East Regional P-16 Council which became the state’s first recognized regional council in November 2004 and includes Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Sevier and Union counties.
Vision
The P-16 vision is: 10 Counties Working Together and Improving Lives through Education.
Goals
There are 3 goals of the P-16 Council:
· P-16 GOAL 1 – Increase public awareness of the link between an educated citizenry
and a healthy economy
· P-16 GOAL 2 – Strengthen connections and smooth transitions between PreK-12 and
higher education to improve student learning at all levels
· P-16 GOAL 3 – Promote access to competent, caring and qualified teachers in grades

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee of the Mid-East Tennessee Regional P-16 Council is tasked with creating and implementing a five-year strategic plan and will meet yearly during Fall semester to review and revise this plan. Further, these members work to provide biyearly meetings along with workshops, summits, professional development activities, and conferences to meet the objectives of the strategic plans as set forth in the mission, vision, and goals statements of the Mid-East TN Regional P-16 Council. This committee recommends and approves those members that comprise the regional council.

WSCC Vice President for Academic Affairs
WSCC Dean of Distance Education
At least 1 member of a local education agency
At least 1 business or economic development representative
Other members may be named and approved by this executive committee
The secretary to the Dean of Distance Education will serve as the secretary to this committee and will be responsible for minutes.
These members are invited to serve two year terms based on current executive committee member recommendation.
