Purpose
The Student Government Association (SGA) is charged with representing the feelings, values, and desires of the student body to the college administration. In fulfilling this purpose, the SGA, within the regulations of the college and its governing Board, is empowered to:
- Make any resolutions, recommendations, and endorsements that are deemed necessary to carry out its purpose.
- Provide guidance to student organization officers in an effort to ensure organization activity is compliant with established policies/procedures.
- Offer recommendations to the Student Services Committee concerning petitions for the formation of new organizations.
- Review requests for students to serve on official college committees; and recommend, subject to approval by the President (or official designee), students for same. The SGA shall ensure fair representation from each academic division on such committee.
- Appoint student representatives to serve on and a Chief Justice to preside over Traffic Court.
Student Government Association shall meet monthly or as needed.
Membership
The SGA Executive Council members, composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Sophomore Class Representative, and Freshman Class Representative, Sevierville Campus Representative, Niswonger Campus Representative, and Claiborne Campus Representative, are elected by the student body and report to the Vice President for Student Services.
The SGA Senate is comprised of one representative from each organized and duly recognized student club.
