Engineering Systems Technology - Computer-Aided Design

The Engineering Systems Technology program is designed to provide students with an effective blending of diverse industrial skill sets through a variety of specializations, preparing graduates with the skills needed for immediate entrance into the industrial workforce. Skills emphasized in the program include, but are not limited to: advanced manufacturing applications, computerized design and industrial equipment programming, operations management, and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems.

The AAS in Engineering Systems Technology was developed in compliance with the Complete College Tennessee Act of 2010. Students who begin this program at Walters State Community College and transfer to another Tennessee public community college are guaranteed their credits will transfer toward completion of the AAS degree in Engineering Systems Technology.

In compliance with the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) accreditation requirements, all students graduating from the AAS in Engineering Systems Technology must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of management and/or technical coursework at Walters State Community College as a requirement for graduation.

The Engineering Systems Technology degree program contains five specialization areas. Students are required to choose one specialization area from the five provided: Advanced Manufacturing, Architectural Design, Computer Aided Design, Mechanical Design, and Operations Management.

Computer Aided Design Specialization:

The computer aided design specialization is a general CAD based curriculum that covers 2D and 3D design using both architectural and mechanical CAD software. This specialization allows students whose interests lie specifically in computer aided drafting and design to study the applications of multiple design software packages in the development of a diverse CAD skills portfolio.

This program and its specialization areas are designed for the student who does not intend to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program.
