Musical Theatre

The Department of Music and Theatre offers students an opportunity to earn an Associate’s Degree in Musical Theatre.  The degree combines study in dance, voice, and acting to prepare students for employment as performers or transfer to a senior institution.

This program is designed for the student who does intend to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program.

Degree: Associate of Fine Arts

Emphasis: Musical Theatre

Recommended Full-Time Schedule

The following Recommended Full-Time Schedule is not a substitute for academic advising. You must meet with an academic advisor each semester to be cleared for registration. Consult with your advisor about scheduling and degree requirements. Also, see the current undergraduate catalog (catalog.ws.edu) for a complete list of requirements and electives. Requirements are continually under revision, and there is no guarantee they will not be changed or revoked. Contact the academic division or department for current information.

Factors that affect your progression include required Learning Support courses, your choices regarding campus location, course delivery method, and the days and times selected to take classes.

1General Education electives in each category must be chosen from approved courses listed in the General Education Program .

2Students will complete the remaining six hours of the humanities requirement, including one course in literature, at universities upon transfer.

Students must successfully complete placement requirements in music theory, ear training, and piano at the university where transfer is planned. Students must also successfully complete required university auditions as appropriate.

    1 Individual Music Instruction - Voice (1 hr.)

    All music theatre majors are required to take a Theory and Piano Proficiency Exam. Those scoring below 80% on the Theory Exam will be required to enroll in MUS 1020. Those scoring below 80% on the Piano Exam will be required to gake MUS 1610 and 1620.
